Great website Kevin & superb photos. I can't recommend your courses highly enough. Having taken two this year, as a complete ignoramus with a map I now feel confident in heading off the beaten track and even gave some paras directions up in the Beacons!!

Hi Kevin

It was great to meet you last month and the navigation course you ran for us was fantastic. For people who have never been to the area your knowledgable and humorous tour of the area was interesting and entertaining. You also managed to teach us how use a map and compass which was our aim for the day.

I would definitely recommend Kevin's courses to anyone from complete novices like ourselves to experienced mountaineers.

Thanks again

In just four hours this morning I saw what felt like four different countries - each more stunning than the last. This part of the UK - which I've never visited before - is truly a land of contrasts, with moorland giving way to steep hills and valleys with streams and caves, ancient woodland and hidden signs of the region's industrial past. Only an experienced guide like Kevin could bring the whole experience into full colour with knowledgeable explanations and fascinating historical anecdotes. Kevin also judged the distance and level of difficulty perfectly for me: I felt challenged at times but never overwhelmed. If you don't know Wales or the Brecon Beacons very well, a walk led by Kevin - who absolutely knows his stuff - is the perfect way to start.

Last weekend I completed the Mountain and Moorland Navigation course with Kevin, and I can honestly say it was the most enjoyable course I have done in a long time! Being a complete beginner Kevin immediately made me feel at ease and his teaching style is very clear and easy to understand. In just two days I went from having no idea how to read a map or navigate from one point to another to having the confidence and knowledge to venture out on my own and accurately put the skills learnt in to practice. Kevin is extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my questions in a way that was very easy to understand. I also learnt a hell of a lot about the local area and history of Crickhowell, which was a great added bonus. I would definitely recommend Kevin and I will be booking another course shortly.

Thanks again Kevin, and I hope you enjoy your time down under!!

I recently completed the two-day mountain and moorland navigation course and had the most amazing time. I thought I knew about maps as I have many years' experience of navigating around lowland areas, but this part of the course was a complete revelation. I realise that what I was doing was map reading rather than map interpretation, and it was great to gain further insight into just what a powerful tool an OS map is. The second day focused on combined map and compass skills for navigation in low visibility and it has given me the confidence to head for the hills alone. Kevin is an extremely patient instructor with an infectious enthusiasm. The course was a great mix of theory and practice in the stunning setting of the Brecon Beacons.
Thanks, Kevin. I will definitely signing up for another course soon.

Having very little navigation experience I was hoping for a knowledgable, patient and personable instructor & turns out Kevin was all those things! Peeling away the layers of navigation and map interpretation in manageable chunks proved very useful & something we put into practice throughout the two days. This has given me confidence to utilise these basic skills and build upon them. The level was pitched just right & I definitely felt like I could ask as many Q's as I wanted throughout, which is exactly what a novice needs. Will definitely be coming back again on another course!

This week has been fantastic! Thank you Kevin for all your time.

I have completed the 4day Hill walkers confidence course with Kevin, who I have to say is a true gentleman and fascinating to listen to. I have had my eyes opened to the true wonders of the stunning landscape in which I feel lucky to live in. Kevin is extremely knowledgeable, patient and his expertise brought the best out in me with turning theory into practical application. Oh and not forgetting "within 25m please Gary"

I would definitely recommend Kevin and any of his courses for developing your skills and confidence on the moorlands, hills or mountains

I did a 2 day, 1-1 tuition course with Kevin - it couldn't have been more useful. I went from a novice, to feeling like I had a good base-level of map interpretation and understanding, and crucially, the confidence to go and practice the skills he taught me on my own. He designed the two days perfectly, so I learnt a lot, but wasn't swamped. A thoroughly interesting and enjoyable two days, and I couldn't recommend him more.

Friendly, fun and superbly taught course by Kevin who has decades of experience in leadership. Although I have difficulty in map reading , Kevin made me feel quite at ease in making mistakes and learning from them .

I thoroughly recommend this course.

I completed the 2 day Mountain navigation and Moorland course in February with Kevin. My navigation and map interpretation was average at best when I started the course. After the first morning with Kevin I already felt his knowledge and personality had helped me understand how easy and simple navigation and map interpretation should be. His delivery of the course content made me feel confident and at ease with my navigation when out on the hills. Kevin is a top bloke his local knowledge was extensive and interesting. His company and enthusiasm was so enjoyable over the course I'll be back again and couldn't recommend him more. I had a great few days.
Cheers Kevin

The 2 day navigation course did not disappoint and I love that I didn’t have to wait for summer to roll around to do it. I’ve never had any training in navigation but I’d picked up small bits and pieces from friends/fellow hikers. This course managed to fill the gaps and address the question marks as well as give me some confidence for starting to do hikes that require navigation on my own. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. Kevin’s enthusiasm and ability to explain the key concepts made this course very engaging, informative and worthwhile. The fact Kevin also knew the area well meant we not only learnt navigation skills but also some history/culture related to the Brecon Beacons. This is a very well planned and fine-tuned course; you won’t regret it.

Last weekend we completed the Mountain & Moorland Navigation stage 1 with Kevin, and can wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who wants to gain a solid foundation in navigation in an extremely enjoyable environment.
Kevin has an excellent way of explaining the more technical aspects of navigation in a way that is easily understandable, and varies his teaching approach to suit the needs of each student. The course had the perfect balance of theory table sessions, and practical sessions on the mountain.
In addition to this, Kevin is a font of knowledge on local history, flora and fauna, and other things. We enjoyed picking his brains on his treks in the Himalayas!
We can't wait to put into practice the skills we have learnt now that we feel fully confident to trek offpist on our own.
Cheers Kev!
